| 0–3 months | 40 | 23 | 14 |
| 3–6 months | 45 | 25 | 15 |

Yarn choices and requirements
For the DK/8ply version, choose the original stocked Naturally Magic Garden Classic DK/8ply, approximately 138 m per 50 g. For the 4ply version, the approved replacement is Naturally New Zealand Merino 4ply, approximately 178 m per 50 g. Use one strand of your chosen weight.
| Size | Classic DK/8ply (m) | NZ Merino 4ply estimate (m) |
|---|---|---|
| 0–3 months | 276 | 356 |
| 3–6 months | 276 | 356 |
| 6–9 months | 414 | 356 |
| 9–12 months | 414 | 534 |
| 1–2 years | 414 | 534 |
Each column is for one jumper in that weight; do not combine them. DK allowances are converted at the confirmed original 138 m per 50 g. The 4ply allowances are equivalent-metre estimates based on the leaflet’s quantities at 178 m per 50 g, carried across to the approved replacement. Round up to whole sale units and swatch before starting.
Gauge and needles
| Version | Stocking stitch gauge per 10 cm | Straight needles |
|---|---|---|
| DK/8ply | 22 stitches × 30 rows | 3.75 mm and 4.00 mm |
| 4ply | 28 stitches × 36 rows | 2.75 mm and 3.25 mm |
Gauge is measured on the larger needle in each version. The 4ply front upper-band instruction additionally specifies 3.00 mm needles; follow that instruction in the leaflet.
Make a washed and blocked swatch before starting, adjust needle size to match both stitch and row gauge, and allow extra yarn for swatching.

Frequently asked questions
Do I hold the 4ply yarn double?
No. Both versions use a single strand. Choose one yarn weight and follow its own instructions and gauge.
Where are the buttons?
The four buttons fasten the overlapping shoulder bands at the boat neck, making the neck opening adjustable for dressing.
