Stripes Cardigan – Naturally K3006
A practical striped cardigan for children aged 2–12 years, with a shaped raglan yoke and neat garter-stitch button bands. Choose two contrasting shades of Loyal 8ply for a colourful everyday layer.
Construction and pattern facts
Knitted from the top down in rows, with raglan increases and sleeve stitches held while the body is completed. The sleeves are also worked flat, then their underarm seams are sewn. The contrast-colour button bands are knitted along with the body using separate yarn supplies and the intarsia technique at the joins. This is a single-strand project: colours are worked separately, not held together.

Yarn requirements
Loyal 8ply is the approved replacement for the discontinued Vegas Tweed colour and is also the original yarn for the bands and second stripe colour. Choose two colours. These are estimated equivalent-metre allowances: the original quantities were converted at 105 m per 50 g for each yarn; Loyal also provides 105 m per 50 g. Allow for your own tension and swatching.

Gauge
22 stitches × 26 rows over stocking stitch on 4.00 mm needles = 10 × 10 cm. Loyal’s label row gauge differs from this pattern, so check a washed and blocked swatch against the pattern’s stitch and row gauge before knitting.
Needles and notions
- 3.25 mm and 4.00 mm circular needles with a 60 cm cord; straight needles may be used because the cardigan is worked flat.
- Five buttons and four stitch markers.
- Two stitch holders or waste yarn, plus a tapestry needle.
Skill guidance
Intermediate: raglan shaping, stripes, intarsia joins for the bands, buttonholes and seaming. Keep separate yarn supplies for the two bands and read the buttonhole spacing for your chosen size before starting.
