Sophie Hood Knit Kit
Sophie Hood Knit Kit
A hood and scarf in one cosy piece, knitted in softly brushed Chaska Alpaca Air. PetiteKnit’s Sophie Hood wraps around your head and neck, with tidy i-cord edges and long ends for tying or wrapping.
Skill level and construction
Intermediate. Worked flat from tip to tip in garter stitch. You will practise knit-front-and-back increases, knit-two-together and slip-knit-pass decreases, slipped i-cord edges, holding and returning stitches, and mattress stitch. The back of the hood is sewn together after knitting.
Materials and kit contents
- Chaska Alpaca Air 12ply in your selected colour and size quantity shown below.
- One printed PetiteKnit Sophie Hood pattern.
- Tapestry needle and stitch marker set.
Knitting needles are not included. The pattern is also available separately.
Sizes and yarn supplied
| Size | Length from hood to tip | Hood depth | Alpaca Air supplied |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 102 cm | 24 cm | 400 m |
| M | 128 cm | 24 cm | 500 m |
| L | 154 cm | 24 cm | 700 m |
Each kit makes one hooded scarf. All three sizes have the same hood depth; the ends become longer as the size increases. Yarn is supplied in full units. This kit uses Chaska Alpaca Air as a substitute for the original pattern yarns, with one strand throughout.
Tension and needles
17 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch on 5 mm needles. You will need a 5 mm circular needle with a 60 cm cord, plus a stitch holder or spare yarn for resting stitches. Although a circular needle is used, the project is worked back and forth.
Wash and dry a swatch before measuring. Both stitch and row tension affect the hood and scarf dimensions; see our guide to checking knitting tension.
Yarn and care
Chaska Alpaca Air is 80% baby alpaca and 20% acrylic, with 100 metres per 50 g. Its brushed texture gives the fabric a soft halo. Hand wash gently and dry flat, following the yarn label.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between S, M and L?
The hood depth is 24 cm in every size. Choose by the length of the scarf ends: approximately 102, 128 or 154 cm from hood to tip.
Is the Sophie Hood knitted in the round?
No. It is worked flat on a circular needle, then sewn along the back of the hood.
Is this a beginner project?
We recommend it for intermediate knitters who can follow shaping, work i-cord edges and finish with mattress stitch.
Are knitting needles included?
No. You need a 5 mm circular needle with a 60 cm cord. A tapestry needle and stitch markers are included.
Is Alpaca Air the original pattern yarn?
It is the yarn chosen for this Wild & Woolly kit. Swatch with one strand to achieve the pattern’s garter-stitch tension before starting.
