Stockholm Slipover Round Neck Knit Kit

Knit a round-neck vest to layer over shirts, dresses and tees. PetiteKnit’s Stockholm Slipover combines shaped shoulders with ribbed edges, using two strands held together for a softly textured fabric.

Skill level and construction

Intermediate. You will work short rows, directional increases and decreases, pick up stitches and use an Italian cast-off. The back, shoulders and front are worked from the top down, then joined for knitting the body in the round. The neckline and armholes are finished with picked-up ribbing.

Materials and kit contents

The pattern is also sold separately. Needles and finishing tools are required separately.

Yarns and supplied metreage

Hold one strand of Sandnes Garn Sunday 4ply together with one strand of silk mohair throughout. Sunday is 100% non-superwash merino wool. Your colour choice pairs it with either Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair 2ply (57% mohair, 28% silk and 15% wool) or Sesia Vivienne 2ply Silk Mohair (70% super kid mohair and 30% silk), as shown below.

The table shows the yarn supplied for one slipover in each pattern size. Each strand is listed separately; do not add the two lengths together. Whole yarn units are supplied, so some sizes have yarn left over. Choose the kit group containing your individual pattern size.

Choosing your size

The pattern is designed with approximately 6 cm of positive ease. Compare your body measurement with the finished bust circumference below. The kit options group XS/S/M/L/XL together, 2XL/3XL/4XL together, and 5XL separately. A grouped kit supplies one garment; follow the instructions for your individual pattern size.

Size Finished bust (cm) Back width (cm) Armhole depth (cm) Length (cm)
XS 91 35 22 53
S 96 35 23 54
M 100 36 24 55
L 105 38 25 57
XL 116 40 26 58
2XL 126 41 27 60
3XL 136 42 29 62
4XL 146 42 29 64
5XL 156 44 31 65

Length is measured at the centre back, including the neck edge. Other measurements are also finished garment measurements.

Tension and needles

19 stitches and 27 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4.5 mm needles, with both yarns held together. Make and wash a swatch with the actual kit yarns before starting; tension is particularly important to the shoulder width.

  • 4.5 mm circular needles: 60 cm and 80 or 100 cm.
  • 3.5 mm circular needles: 40 cm and 80 or 100 cm.
  • Stitch markers, a way to hold resting stitches and a tapestry needle for finishing.

These tools are required separately; the current kit contents list yarn and a printed pattern. Our knitting tension guide explains how to measure a swatch.

Care

Hand-wash gently and dry flat. Follow both yarn labels; hand-washing is required for Sesia Vivienne colourways. Avoid rubbing, wringing or tumble drying.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the round-neck or V-neck design?

This kit is for the round-neck Stockholm Slipover. The V-neck kit is a separate listing.

Is the entire slipover knitted in the round?

No. The upper sections are worked back and forth; the front and back are then joined to knit the body in the round.

Do I hold both yarns together?

Yes. Work with the main yarn and silk mohair held together, and use both strands in your tension swatch.

Why are several sizes listed in one kit option?

The kit has grouped size selections. Choose the group containing your pattern size, then follow that individual size’s instructions. One kit makes one slipover.

Are needles included?

The current contents list yarn and a printed pattern. Provide your own 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm circular needles and finishing tools.

Beautiful wool knitting together seamlessly but the pattern looks quite complicated and will take some concentration.
