A light merino tee with a beautifully ribbed circular yoke, the Sunday Tee makes an easy-to-wear layer for everyday outfits. This kit pairs PetiteKnit's printed pattern with soft Sandnes Garn Sunday 4ply in your chosen shade.

About the pattern

Work from the top down with one strand of Sunday. The ribbed yoke grows through increases, then German short rows raise the back neckline. The body and sleeves are worked in the round in stocking stitch. The neck edge is folded as you work; the body and sleeve hems are folded and sewn down to finish.

Skill level

Intermediate. You should be comfortable knitting in the round, working ribbing, following increases and decreases, picking up stitches and working short rows. This is a useful project for practising yoke shaping and neat folded edges.

Choosing a size

The pattern is designed for approximately 2 cm of positive ease. Measure your bust and compare it with the finished measurements, allowing for the fit you prefer. Kit size groups specify yarn quantities; the printed pattern contains individual instructions for all ten sizes. Length is measured at the middle of the back, including the neck edge.

Kit contents and yarn supplied

• One printed Sunday Tee pattern by PetiteKnit.
• One set of stitch-holder cords; cord colours vary by kit.

Sunday is 100% non-superwash merino wool, with approximately 235 metres per 50 g ball. Knit this tee with one strand. The pattern allows 1,410–1,645 metres for 3XL; the kit supplies 1,645 metres for the whole 3XL/4XL/5XL group. Extra length or a different tension may require additional yarn.

Tension

28 stitches and 40 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3 mm needles after washing and blocking. Swatch first and adjust needle size to achieve the pattern tension.

Needles and extras required

• 3 mm circular needles in 60 cm and 80 or 100 cm lengths.
• 2.5 mm circular needle, 80 cm.
• 2 mm circular needle, 40 cm, for the neck edge.
• 2.5 mm and 3 mm double-pointed needles, or long circular needles for Magic Loop, for the sleeves.
• Stitch markers and a sewing needle. Thin elastic for the neckline is optional.

Needles, stitch markers, a sewing needle, elastic and a decorative tag are not included.

Care

Follow the ball band. Sunday can be machine washed separately on a gentle wool programme; reshape and dry flat. Do not tumble dry or use a laundry bag, as friction may felt the non-superwash wool. Our wet-blocking guide can help you finish your swatch and tee.

Frequently asked questions

Do I choose an individual size or a size group?

Choose the kit group containing your intended pattern size, then follow that individual size in the printed pattern. For example, the M/L kit supplies 1,175 metres for either M or L.

Is Sunday Tee completely seamless?

The garment is knitted from the top down in the round, without side seams. You still sew down the folded body and sleeve hems and weave in the ends.

Are needles and stitch holders included?

A set of stitch-holder cords is included. All needles are purchased separately; you need several sizes for the neck, main fabric and folded hems.

Does the kit include mohair?

No. This version uses Sunday merino on its own, with one strand throughout. Adding mohair would change the fabric and requires a new gauge check.

How do I choose the fit?

Compare your bust with the finished bust measurements, aiming for approximately 2 cm of positive ease. Wash and measure a swatch before choosing your final needle size.
