Textured Baby Jacket & Hat in New Zealand Merino 4ply
A sweet matching baby set with delicate lace texture, garter-stitch trims and a classic button-front jacket. Soft New Zealand merino makes this a lovely handmade gift or an everyday layer for newborns through to 18 months.
Skill level and construction
Intermediate: you should be comfortable with an eight-row lace repeat, yarn overs, paired decreases, shaping, picking up neckband stitches, buttonholes and sewing seams. The jacket’s pieces and sleeves are knitted flat and assembled; the hat is also worked flat, shaped at the crown and seamed at the back.

- New Zealand Merino 4ply in your chosen shade: 178 m per 50 g ball, 100% New Zealand merino, worked with one strand.
- One printed Baby Jacket & Hat pattern (K362), posted with the kit.
- Three wooden Handmade buttons.
With Needles adds one pair each of ChiaoGoo bamboo straight needles in 2.75 mm and 3.25 mm, 33 cm long. Without Needles includes no knitting needles. Stitch holders, stitch markers and a finishing needle are separately required; a leather tag is not included.

The combined 3 Months / 6–9 Months option supplies yarn for one jacket-and-hat set in either size. Follow your selected pattern size; it does not supply two sets. Choose by chest measurements as well as age. Jacket length is measured from the back neck.
Tension and care
28 stitches × 36 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Swatch with the kit yarn before starting and adjust needles to match. The yarn is machine washable; follow the ball band and dry your finished set flat.

What does the combined 3 Months / 6–9 Months option mean?
Both pattern sizes use three balls (534 m). Choose either set of instructions; the finished jacket chest is 46 cm for 3 months or 52 cm for 6–9 months.
Is the set knitted seamlessly?
No. Both pieces are worked flat. The jacket needs assembly and sleeve seams, and the hat has a back seam.
Which needles come with the kit?
Only With Needles includes the 2.75 mm and 3.25 mm bamboo straight pairs. The printed pattern and three wooden buttons are included in both options.
Is this a first knitting project?
The lace, shaping, neckband and seaming make this an intermediate project. It suits knitters who already know the basics and are comfortable following a stitch repeat.
