Top Down Comfy Striped Jumper Knit Kit
Top Down Comfy Striped Jumper in Chaska Alpaca Air
A relaxed jumper with a soft alpaca halo, contrasting stripes and raglan shaping. Knitted from the top down, it has a roomy body and ribbed neck, cuffs and hem — a cosy layer with very little finishing.
Skill level and construction
Intermediate: you will work neck shaping with wrap-and-turn short rows, raglan increases, stripes, underarm stitch pick-ups and sleeve decreases. After the neck shaping, the jumper is worked in the round. Sleeves are held while the body is knitted, then completed with double-pointed needles or Magic Loop. Weave in ends to finish.
Your kit includes
- Chaska Alpaca Air 12ply in two colours: 80% baby alpaca and 20% acrylic, approximately 100 m per 50 g ball. Each colour is worked singly.
- One printed Top Down Comfy Striped Jumper pattern (N1699).
- One black-and-white stitch-holder cord set.
Knitting needles, four stitch markers and a tapestry needle are separately required. A leather tag is not included.

The finished chest provides approximately 24–27 cm of positive ease. Compare the finished measurements with a favourite roomy jumper. The shared 85 cm / 95 cm kit makes one jumper in either size; follow that size’s instructions.
Colour A is the first shade named in your colour option; Colour B is the second. Options pair Victorian Pewter (8075, named Silver Mist on the current yarn listing) with Burgundy (8069) or Hunter Green (8074, named Deep Forest on the current yarn listing), and Gentle Breeze (8059) with Chocolate (8070) or Calm Sea (8052).
Tension and needle choices
16 stitches × 24 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles. Use 5 mm and 6 mm circular needles with 60 cm and 80 cm cords, plus 5 mm and 6 mm DPNs or longer circulars for Magic Loop. Swatch before starting and adjust your needle size if needed to achieve this gauge. Use this project gauge rather than the yarn label’s row tension.
Care
Mild hand wash and dry flat, following the ball band. Handle the brushed alpaca fabric gently to preserve its airy texture.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a seamless top-down jumper?
Yes. It is worked from the neck down, with sleeves held and then knitted in the round. There are no garment seams to sew.
What experience do I need?
This intermediate project uses short rows, raglan increases, stripe changes, underarm pick-ups and sleeve decreases. You should already be comfortable knitting in the round.
Does the 85 cm / 95 cm option make two jumpers?
No. It supplies one jumper in either size, with 400 m of each colour. The finished chest measurements differ: 109 cm and 119 cm.
Are needles and markers included?
No. The kit includes yarn, the printed N1699 pattern and stitch-holder cords. Supply your own knitting needles, four markers and a tapestry needle.
Which needles do I need, and what is the gauge?
Use 5 mm and 6 mm needles. The main stocking-stitch gauge is 16 stitches and 24 rows per 10 cm on 6 mm needles. Swatch first and adjust if needed to match that gauge.
