Top Down Raglan Jumper Knit Kit
Top Down Raglan Baby Jumper in Merino Prints
Knit a soft baby jumper in gently shifting colours, with the printed yarn creating the colour effect for you. This seamless raglan is worked from the neck down, making a practical handmade layer for little ones aged 6 to 24 months.
Skill level and construction
Confident Beginner: suitable if you can knit in the round and are ready for raglan increases, holding sleeve stitches, picking up underarm stitches and paired decreases. The neck, cuffs and hem are ribbed. The sleeves are completed in the round using double-pointed needles or Magic Loop; there are no garment seams to sew.
Your kit includes
- New Zealand Merino Prints DK / 8ply, 100% merino, approximately 138 m per 50 g ball, worked with one strand.
- One printed Baby Raglan Jumper pattern (K3070).
- One black-and-white stitch-holder cord set.
Knitting needles, stitch markers and a tapestry needle for ends are separately required.
Sizes and yarn supplied
| Pattern size | Finished chest | Yarn supplied |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | 48 cm | 414 m (3 balls) |
| 12 months | 52 cm | 414 m (3 balls) |
| 24 months | 56 cm | 552 m (4 balls) |
The combined 6 Months / 12 Months kit supplies one jumper in either size. Follow the instructions for the size you choose; it does not supply two jumpers. Age is a guide, so compare the finished chest with a well-fitting baby garment.
Tension and needles
22 stitches × 30 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles. Swatch and adjust your main needle to achieve this gauge.
Use 3.5 mm and 4 mm circular needles, 60 cm long, plus 3.5 mm and 4 mm DPNs for small circumferences. Follow the written instructions: the neck ribbing uses 3.5 mm needles and the main stocking-stitch fabric uses 4 mm needles. Magic Loop is an alternative with an appropriately longer circular needle.
Colour and care
Printed yarn creates natural colour changes without carrying separate contrast yarns; each jumper’s colour placement will vary. Follow the ball band for a mild machine wash and dry flat.
Frequently asked questions
Is this suitable for a confident beginner?
Yes, if you can already knit in the round and are comfortable learning raglan increases, underarm pick-ups and sleeve decreases.
What does 6 Months / 12 Months mean?
The same three-ball kit (414 m) makes one jumper in either size. The finished chest is 48 cm for 6 months and 52 cm for 12 months.
Do I need to sew seams or work colourwork?
No garment seams or separate-colour stranding are required. The printed yarn creates the colour changes as you knit.
Are needles included?
No. Yarn, the printed K3070 pattern and stitch-holder cords are included. Supply knitting needles, markers and a tapestry needle.
Which small needles do I need?
Use 3.5 mm and 4 mm DPNs, or suitably long circular needles for Magic Loop. The neck ribbing is worked on 3.5 mm needles, matching the written pattern instructions; the main stocking-stitch gauge is on 4 mm needles.
