Urpi Shawl Knit Kit

A wide shaped cotton shawl designed by Martha Wissing, combining a wave border, knot texture and short-row shaping. One kit makes one project in your chosen shade.

Why You’ll Love This Knit Kit

  • 100% organically grown cotton with a naturally undulating texture
  • Yarn quantities matched to the original Urpi Shawl pattern
  • Choose from our nine stocked Palma shades

Construction

Work flat from the bottom up, beginning with a wave lace border. Short rows shape the shawl while the Wildflower Knot texture is worked; a long circular needle accommodates the stitches.

Skill Level

Intermediate: you should be comfortable knitting and purling, yarn overs, knit-two-together and slip-slip-knit decreases. Practise wave lace, Wildflower Knot stitches and short-row shaping, keeping track of a long row of stitches.

Frequently asked questions

Is Urpi knitted in the round?

No. It is knitted flat from the bottom up. A 4 mm circular needle about 81 cm long holds the large number of stitches.

How experienced should I be?

This intermediate project combines lace, knot stitches and short rows. Familiarity with yarn overs, decreases and reading your knitting will help.

What yarn and pattern are included?

Four 100 g hanks of Palma in your selected shade, totalling 600 m, one printed Urpi pattern and an A5 kit insert. Needles, markers and a tapestry needle are separate.

What are the finished size and gauge?

Approximately 192 cm long with a 34 cm centre depth after blocking. Gauge is 17.5 stitches and 26 rows per 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles.

How do I care for the cotton shawl?

Follow the pattern’s finishing instructions and the yarn label. Reshape gently and dry flat, supporting the shawl rather than hanging it while wet.
