Crossover Jacket & Hat Knit Kit – Solid

Knit a wrap-front jacket and matching hat for a summer baby in Bio Sesia 5 organic cotton 4ply. Ribbed edges, knitted ties and a choice of stocking stitch or lace detail make this a lovely set for newborns through to 18 months.

About the Pattern

The jacket is worked flat in separate back, front and sleeve pieces, with shaped armholes and sleeve tops. Stitches are picked up for the ribbed front and neck edging. Knitted ties fasten the crossover front; a snap fastener is optional. The matching hat is worked flat and seamed.

Skill Level

Intermediate. You should be comfortable with ribbing, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches and seaming. The lace version also uses yarn overs and lace decreases.

Choosing a Size

Measure the baby's chest and choose by measurement; ages are a guide. All measurements below are in centimetres. The 3 months and 6–9 months sizes share a kit option because they need the same yarn quantity. Each kit supplies one set; follow the individual pattern size you choose.

Yarn Information

Bio Sesia 5 is 100% organic combed cotton in 4ply, with a smooth feel and clear stitch definition. It supplies 180 metres per 50 g ball. This solid-colour kit uses Bio Sesia 5; the pattern also lists Bio Bimbo as an alternative yarn.

Tension

28 stitches and 36 rows = 10 × 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry your tension square before measuring; adjust needle size if needed.

Needles and Notions

You will need 2.75 mm and 3.25 mm knitting needles, a stitch holder and a sewing needle for finishing. An optional snap fastener can be added as directed in the pattern. Needles, tools and the optional fastener are not included.
