Striped Sweater & Hat – Naturally K3052
A two-colour cotton sweater with striped lower sections, a plain upper body and a short centre-front button opening, plus a matching hat. The sweater is knitted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and seamed. The hat is worked flat, shaped at the crown and sewn along the back.

Ages are approximate. Choose by chest measurement; the finished sweater has approximately 5 cm of ease.

Yarn requirements
Use Sesia Bio Sesia 5 organic cotton 4ply, held single. Allowances use 180 metres per 50 g and are approximate.
Each colour is required separately; the allowances cover the sweater and hat together. The sample uses A 141 and B 1632.

Tension
28 stitches × 36 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring, and adjust needle size to achieve the pattern tension.
Needles and notions
- 3.00 mm and 3.25 mm knitting needles.
- One button, stitch holders, stitch markers and a tapestry needle.
Skills and preparation
This suits a confident knitter ready to practise stripes, ribbing, increases and decreases, front-neck shaping, a buttonhole, picking up stitches and seaming. Track the stripe sequence separately for body, sleeves and hat.

Where is the button opening?
It is a short split at the centre front, below the neckband, rather than a shoulder opening.
Is the whole sweater striped?
No. The lower body and lower sleeves have stripes; the upper sweater uses colour A. The hat combines both colours.
