Knit a classic child’s jacket in self-patterning Sesia Nordica Print DK. The body is worked in one piece to the underarms, then divided for the fronts and back; the sleeves are worked separately and sewn in. The jacket has textured front edges and a three-button fastening.

Pattern lengths: 32 (35, 40, 44) cm for ages 2 (4, 6, 8) years. Self-patterning placement varies with garment size and where each ball begins.
Gauge and tools
22 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles. The pattern also requires 3.75 mm needles for the neckband, plus stitch holders and markers. Needles are optional extras and are not included in this kit. Make and wash a tension square before casting on.
Follow the supplied Naturally K430 pattern for the complete instructions. Care for the merino yarn according to its label; reshape and dry flat.
Is this jacket the right project?
This is a rewarding project for an intermediate knitter who is happy following shaping instructions, knitting buttonholes and sewing in sleeves. It is not generally a first garment project. The self-patterning merino creates changing colour effects, so each finished jacket will be individual rather than identical to the photograph.
