Simple Triangle Shawl Knit Kit

A generous triangular shawl for wrapping around your shoulders on cooler days. Naturally’s N1655 design combines stocking stitch with moss-stitch texture in soft Chaska Wara 8ply, a blend of baby alpaca, merino wool and Pima cotton.

Skill level and construction

Confident Beginner. A useful next project if you can knit and purl and want to practise yarn-over increases and keeping a repeating texture in order. The shawl grows from a small starting point and is worked flat on a circular needle; you do not join it into a round. Finish with a loose patterned cast-off and weave in the ends.

Materials and kit contents

The kit includes a printed pattern. The pattern is also sold separately.

Size and tension

One size. The pattern gives two finished edge measurements of approximately 179 × 160 cm; these are edge measurements, rather than a verified perpendicular height.

18 stitches and 28 rows = 10 cm on 5 mm needles. Use the pattern tension rather than the yarn-label tension. Make and wash a swatch before starting; our guide to checking knitting tension explains how.

Needles and finishing tools

The pattern requires a 5 mm circular needle with an 80 cm cord and a tapestry needle for the ends. Choose Without Needles if you already have the knitting needle. A tapestry needle is required separately.

About the yarn and care

Chaska Wara is 42% baby alpaca, 8% merino wool and 50% Pima cotton, with 150 metres per 50 g. Hand wash gently and dry flat in the shade, following the ball band.

Frequently asked questions

Is this shawl knitted in the round?

No. It is knitted back and forth. The circular needle holds the growing number of stitches comfortably.

Is it a suitable first shawl?

It suits a confident beginner who knows knit and purl and is ready to work yarn-over increases and a repeating texture.

How much yarn is included?

The kit supplies 1,050 metres of Chaska Wara for one shawl.

Are knitting needles included?

Select With Needles to include knitting needles. Without Needles excludes them. The pattern requires a 5 mm circular needle with an 80 cm cord.

How should I wash the finished shawl?

Hand wash gently and dry flat in the shade. Keep the yarn label for its care instructions.
