Yarn and Pattern Options
The original pattern contains instructions for both Crucci Baby Love 3 ply and 4 ply. This Wild & Woolly kit uses Crucci Baby Love 4 ply only, worked with one strand throughout. Follow the 4 ply measurements, yarn quantities, tension and 3.25 mm needle information in the pattern.
- Fibre: 100% Australian merino wool
- Weight: 4 ply
- Ball size: 50 g
- Length: approximately 175 metres per ball
- Care: machine washable on a gentle warm cycle; dry flat
Tension
28 stitches × 36 rows = 10 × 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles.
Correct tension is essential. Knit and wash a tension square before beginning. Use a smaller needle if you have fewer stitches per 10 cm, or a larger needle if you have more stitches per 10 cm.
Needles and Notions
- 3.25 mm knitting needles long enough to comfortably hold the blanket stitches
- Tapestry needle for sewing in ends
- Stitch markers if preferred for tracking pattern repeats
Construction and Skill Level
Skill level: Intermediate. You should be able to cast on, knit, purl and cast off, and follow a long knit-and-purl repeat while keeping the garter borders consistent. There is no shaping or seaming.
The blanket is worked flat from the cast-on edge. A six-row garter-stitch foundation leads into a repeating 66-row texture pattern, with garter-stitch edging built into each row. The bassinet and cot versions use different stitch counts and repeat counts. Finish by sewing in ends and blocking the blanket lightly to open the stitch pattern.
Before You Cast On
Choose the size shown on your kit variant, confirm that you are following the 4 ply column in the pattern, then swatch and adjust the needle size if required. The pattern’s 3 ply quantities and 3.00 mm needles do not apply to this kit.
