Skill level and construction
Confident Beginner: know knit and purl, casting on and working ribbing. Practise knitting with two strands held together, simple knit and purl decreases, gathering the crown and mattress-stitch seaming.
Knit flat from the brim up. Sew the side seam, reversing the seam at the turned-back brim, weave in the ends and tie on the pom pom so it can be removed before washing.
Size and tension
One size to fit an average adult head; the pattern does not give a finished circumference. Aim for approximately 13–14 stitches per 10 cm in stocking stitch on 7 mm needles. Row gauge is not specified. Check a swatch, especially because this kit uses Double Sunday in place of the original pattern’s Wild Earth yarn.

Needles and finishing tools
Use a pair of 7 mm knitting needles, or the size needed for tension; the pattern suggests 8 mm for a tight knitter. Needles and a tapestry needle are required separately. The current kit choices select yarn colour.
